花錢以其較高的藝術(shù)價(jià)值，豐富吉祥的內(nèi)涵，以及和古錢千絲萬縷的關(guān)系，成為中國(guó)古代民俗文物中的一個(gè)特的版塊?；ㄥX中的字文圖案千姿百態(tài)，各具姿容，稱它為古代"銅版畫"并不過分。

八卦錢，屬于厭勝錢類“花錢”。我國(guó)自漢代起官、私爐均行鼓鑄厭勝錢，品類甚多?！鞍素藻X”錢面為八卦圖形及卦名乾、坤、震、巽、坎、離、艮、兌八字；背文多為地支十二字（子、丑、寅、卯等）及對(duì)應(yīng)生肖圖（鼠、牛、虎、兔等）。古時(shí)民間多以為此錢可避邪保安，歷代所鑄版式甚多，大小版式各異，精粗互見。

八卦錢主要用于鎮(zhèn)宅院、保平安、祛病邪、巫術(shù)占卜等。據(jù)說八卦錢在清朝道光年間興盛，用于修建時(shí)放置梁上，辟妖邪、祈福祥。自道光至清朝滅亡，民間人們?yōu)楸鼙鴣y、鎮(zhèn)妖害，在建房時(shí)上梁時(shí)，也放置八卦錢。清王朝滅亡之后，主要用于巫術(shù)占卜了。
