八卦錢,屬于厭勝錢類“花錢”。我國(guó)自漢代起官、私爐均行鼓鑄厭勝錢,品類甚多?!鞍素藻X”錢面為八卦圖形及卦名乾、坤、震、巽、坎、離、艮、兌八字;背文多為地支十二字(子、丑、寅、卯等)及對(duì)應(yīng)生肖圖(鼠、牛、虎、兔等)。古時(shí)民間多以為此錢可避邪保安,歷代所鑄版式甚多,大小版式各異,精粗互見。
“八卦錢”在發(fā)行時(shí)作為“花錢”而并不作流通使用,而供玩賞、紀(jì)念等使用,并非“正幣”。實(shí)為天干地支錢,在厭勝錢家族中占有很大的比重,從東漢到明清皆有鑄造,且有代代仿制幾代同類的,相傳民間有“一個(gè)銅八卦勝過五十錢”的說法,因其鑄造量少,多藏在寶塔地宮,凡年代越久遠(yuǎn),屬首版開爐錢更是。
八卦源于易經(jīng),又比八卦錢早得多,“易更三圣”所指的是一圣伏羲氏、二圣周文王姬昌、三圣孔子,這是創(chuàng)編易經(jīng)的始祖,可見由來久遠(yuǎn)。八卦本是懸掛的意思,懸掛八種象征自然的符號(hào)。符號(hào)是由三道平行橫線、利用橫線中央斷與不斷的變化組合成八組
八卦錢主要用于鎮(zhèn)宅院、保平安、祛病邪、巫術(shù)占卜等。據(jù)說八卦錢在清朝道光年間興盛,用于修建時(shí)放置梁上,辟妖邪、祈福祥。自道光至清朝滅亡,民間人們?yōu)楸鼙鴣y、鎮(zhèn)妖害,在建房時(shí)上梁時(shí),也放置八卦錢。清王朝滅亡之后,主要用于巫術(shù)占卜了。
